Dear Piano Enthusiasts:
I am beginning a search committee to discuss the feasibility of a San Diego-hosted amateur piano competition, whose goal follows the spirit and fun of master classes, recitals, and the competition itself.
The first International Competition for Outstanding Piano Amateurs was founded in 1989 in Paris by Gérard Bekerman. Participants came from all over the world, and from all walks of life—doctors, office workers, lawyers, students, engineers, and many others.
In the 23 years that followed, several well-known amateur piano competitions got its start in such cities as Fort Worth, New York, Colorado Springs, Washington D.C., Boston, and many others (visit this page to see a comprehensive list).
It is time for a West Coast amateur piano competition. San Diego is an ideal choice for its choice of venues, classical music interest, and location appeal.
I’m excited to help get this long-awaited project off the ground.
